Dr Helen Davies

Helen is the Secretary on the Executive Committee of the Contemporary Women’s Writing Association. She is an Associate Lecturer in English Literature at Leeds Metropolitan University, and is also a Visiting Lecturer at Leeds Trinity University College. Helen specialises in Victorian and neo-Victorian literature and culture, gender and sexuality in literature and contemporary women’s writing. Her monograph, Gender and Ventriloquism in Victorian and Neo-Victorian Fiction: Passionate Puppets is being published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2012, and she has also published articles on Sarah Waters and Oscar Wilde. She is currently writing a book about the cultural afterlife of the Victorian freak show and has an on-going research interest in the representation of sisters in contemporary women’s writing. Ms Claire O’Callaghan

Claire is the current Membership Secretary of the FWSA. She is a final year doctoral candidate at the University of Leicester where she is researching the fiction of contemporary author Sarah Waters. Claire has tutored at the Leicester since 2009 and she also currently lectures at Brunel University. Claire’s Ph.D. thesis examines gender and sexuality in Waters’s novels and situates this portrayal within feminist, lesbian-feminist and queer discourse. Claire has published on Waters as well as the novelist Emma Donoghue. She has received both AHRC and RCUK grants for several initiatives including PEGS (Public Engagement in Gender & Sexuality) and the research events of the PG CWWN (Postgraduate Contemporary women’s Writing Network) for which she remains a lead member. Claire is a founding member of both the University of Leicester Feminist Society and Leicester’s branch of the Fawcett Society. Her research interests include  historical fiction, gender and sexual discourse, contemporary women’s writing and gothic fiction. Further details of Claire’s interests can be found here:
